Here's what Race and Gender Mean to Me

0

That's right.  Nothing.  Zlitch.  Nada.  Goose-egg.  I've seen a lot of talk on this blog and others about how we need to vote for Hillary because she's a woman and we need to make history.  I've also seen a lot of talk about how Obama will make history as the first African-American president.  I've even seen some shallow people say we need to vote for Edwards because Americans not ready for either a woman or a black man.

An Introduction to My PAC

I apologize for making this diary nothing but a plug for my website, but I really feel that my PAC can make a difference in the upcoming election.  The following is an exert from the "About Us" section.
* * *

During the 2004 election, the website Kerry4Pres.com raised over six hundred dollars in just a few months for the Kerry campaign.  Although the website, received over five thousand hits and sent countless e-mails, many Americans did not hear our message and reelected the President, and the Republicans in the House and Senate.

Since 2004, those at us at Kerry4Pres.com felt compelled to continue our effort towards electing a democratic majority, and in May 2005 Billboards for America was started by Kerry4Pres alumnus Derek Mazzeo and Chris Riley.

A Fifteen Year Old's PAC

Although I was not old enough to vote, I volunteered countless hours, wrote countless letters, and made dozens of phone calls for the Kerry campaign and my local Democratic Party.  On Nov. 2, I was crushed by Kerry's defeated and by the rejection of so many of our senate candidates, but despite the loss, I felt encouraged.  Even in the conservative atmosphere of my hometown, Yorba Linda, CA (Richard Nixon's birthplace), I could sense that people agreed with democrats on numerous issues and only voted republican because society said it was the "American," and "Christian" thing to do.

A Fifteen Year Old's PAC

Although I am not old enough to vote, I am seriously thinking about starting my own PAC.  I got the idea from the recent DFA campaign, in which, people submitted their ideas for an anti-DeLay billboard that would be put up in his home district.  I believe that, "Billboards for America" (tentative name) could utilize the power of the blogs, and generate large amounts of money, and buy numerous billboards, which are relativity cheap.  Doing this could raise name ID for democrats in key senate, house, and gubernatorial races, and would also educate the public about the corruption and dishonesty of republicans, for a much lower cost than TV or radio advertisements.  Although, it seems easy, I need your help to make it happen.  If anyone has any information on how to purchase billboards, file the proper paperwork in order to form a PAC, or a good way to raise money online, please post.  Thanks for all your help.

A Letter from Bob Casey (Well not really)

I know many people on this blog are Pennacchio supporters, which is perfectly fine, but I feel that many bloggers have given fellow democrat, Bob Casey Jr., a bad wrap, which is not.  Today, I received a letter from the Casey campaign, and I felt that it would be appropriate to post it.

Dear Derek,

Help defeat Rick Santorum.
Click here to endorse Bob Casey for US Senate.

I wanted to contact you personally to tell you why I've decided to work very hard to defeat Rick Santorum and elect Bob Casey.

This is the most important U.S. Senate race in the country ... because Rick Santorum isn't just another Republican vote in the U.S. Senate. Day after day, he's been leading the fight for President Bush's right wing agenda and ignoring the pressing problems of many poor and struggling middle class families here in Pennsylvania.

Let's not forget that it's Rick Santorum who supported irresponsible tax cuts for millionaires, which have driven up the deficit and left the bill to our children and grandchildren. Now, Santorum's fighting to cut Head Start, public education funding, and WIC which strives to prevent low birth-weight births by subsidizing the diets of low-income pregnant women and nursing mothers.

And it's Rick Santorum who's leading the fight to dismantle Social Security as we know it and shrink the safety net that protects seniors from poverty.

We've got to devote all of our energies to removing him from the U.S. Senate. That is why I have endorsed Bob Casey. Won't you join me?

I've known Bob Casey for more than a decade. I know him to be a person of great compassion and decency, and while he and I don't agree on every issue, I ask you to look at his record of standing up and making a difference for people in need. Bob is an effective advocate for seniors, for children and for working families.

Ask anyone in the children's advocate community who saw him take on Governor Ridge over making child care more affordable for low-income working mothers ... or ask them about who stood up to see that day care centers were held to higher standards so that our children were protected ... or ask them who led the effort to strengthen Pennsylvania's Megan's Law.

Ask seniors in nursing homes and their families who it was that brought desperately needed reform to long term care facilities so that life-threatening conditions in nursing homes are immediately addressed.

And ask Pennsylvania Democrats who fought hard for John Kerry and for me and who helped make health care a centerpiece of our successful effort to put John Kerry over the top in Pennsylvania.

The answer to all of these questions ... is Bob Casey. He's been there to fight along with us and now we need to be there with him. We have got to unite behind the strongest candidate and work for Bob.

There's just too much at stake for all of us.

And after you've endorsed Bob, please pass the word along to your friends and family so they too can join the fight for Pennsylvania's future.

Sincerely,

Joe Hoeffel
